I graduated from İzmir Gazi primary school, then from Istanbul – American Robert
College. After studying “İnsurance Sales Management” at the University of Cologne in
Germany, I did my military service in Burdur as an Artilary İnfantry in 1993. In the
same year, I met my wife Hayriye Özlem (Bilgili) and got married in 4 months. My
daughter Melike in 1996 and my son Ömer was born in 1997.
I have been working in our family company since 1990, which has been serving as an
agency in the insurance sector since 1927. From 2004 on to today I work as a member of
the board of directors and General Manager at Korurlar İnsurance and Reinsurance
Brokerage İncorporated Company, which we established with my wife…
In 2006, I became a member of Kordon Rotary Club after being recommended by its
founder member, Dr. Atilla Çilengiroğlu. Actually I did want to be a member of
Rotary,because it was established in many countries so it was International. Of course,
there were many successful non-governmental organizations in Turkey; however, I
always wanted to be a member of a non-governmental organization working
internationally, not nationally. I had heard that Rotary is a true service organization,
and that it is the largest and most trusted nonprofit organization in the world. I have
seen that Rotary International and its member had no prejudice, nor did language,
religion or race make any difference among themselves. Which I believe has an
important impact in its network, so that Rotarians can support all projects both for their
own countries and its citizens, as well as for other countries and citizens in need… This
idea fully overlapped with my own thoughts. After I entered Rotary, I realized that the
rhetoric of “Service Above Self” adopted in each Rotarian, which I believe was founded
on justice and equality, also coincided with our stance in society as a person and as the
Korur family. For this reason, I am very happy to have always been a Rotarian since the
first day I joined…
My wife, Özlem Korur, was no stranger to Rotary… I met and got married when she was
a member of Izmir Rotaract between 1989 and 1993. I have heard many examples from
their Rotaract Club and successful projects. That's why we included our own children in
the Rotary Family as well: Melike and Ömer were Kordon İnteract Clubs’
founders…Melike served as the founder President and Ömer was the founder bord-
member of the Kordon İnteract Club. I also would like to say that my daughter Melike
was a Long Term Exchange student in 2012-2013. She was an exchange for Kolton
Procter from Penticton RC , RID-5060 British Colombia. İt was an outstanding
experience for all but in her own words, “It is a privilege to be a Rotex” defines it
better….
